Removing Office 2016 and Office 365 Manually

Hello all. Do you have Office 2016 already on your Windows PC? I bet some of you here have had this new office software. Actually, Office 2016 also has its partner, namely as Office 365. Both products include Office software such as Word, Excell, Powerpoint and many more, but Office 2016 has more completed version than 365. But what about if you are not satisfied with this new product by Microsoft? You probably need to remove or uninstall them from your PC. To uninstall Office 2016 and Office 365, you need some steps, and today, I would like to share about how to uninstall those office software via manual way. Let’s check it out!

Note: Before you start the removal process, you should know that removing the Office manually takes a long process and complex, and it probably requires you to reinstall the operating system in case if the steps are not conducted correctly.


– Before you do the uninstallation, you need to determine the installation type of the Office, so that you can choose the correct way to remove the installation:
1) Click-to-run: is the way to install and to update the Office via internet and its function is similar with video streaming. In default mode, Office 365, including Office 2016 are installed through Click-to-run method.
2) MSI : it is also known as Microsoft Windows Installer. Is a traditional way in installing the Office via local resource.

– to determine the installation type, you can do this step:
1) Open an Office application, such as Word.
2) Click File > Account
3) If the Office is installed via click-to-run, the update option will appear. For MSI installation, update installation can only be done via Windows Update.

Removing Click-to-Run Installation of Office Manually

Before you start, be sure that you login into the Windows as Administrator, if you are not sure that you have an administrator account, see about how to determine your user account in Windows.

First step : Removing The Windows Installer Pack

1) Find out the Office 2016 installation folder, it is usually located on C:\Program Files\.
2) Right-click the folder Microsoft Office 2016 and click Delete it.

Second step : Removing the Office Scheduled Task

1) Open the Command Prompt as administrator.
2) On command prompt, type this command and press Enter after those commands:

schtasks.exe /delete /tn “\Microsoft\Office\Office Automatic Updates”
schtasks.exe /delete /tn “\Microsoft\Office\Office Subscription Maintenance”
schtasks.exe /delete /tn “\Microsoft\Office\Office ClickToRun Service Monitor”
schtasks.exe /delete /tn “\Microsoft\Office\OfficeTelemetryAgentLogOn2016”
schtasks.exe /delete /tn “\Microsoft\Office\OfficeTelemetryAgentFallBack2016”

Third Step : Using the Task Manager to end the Click-to-run

1) Open the Task Manager

 Windows 10: Right Click the “Start” and click “Task Manager” (The keyboard shortcut is by clicking the Windows logo + X, it also can open the access menu).
 Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 : Direct your pointer into upper right corner of the screen, and then direct again your mouse pointer into the below of the screen and then click “Search”. Type “Task Manager” on result.
 Windows 7: Right click on the empty area of the screen, then choose “Start Task Manager”.

2) Click “Process” tab.
3) If the process runs, right click one by one, and then click “finish the task” on Windows 10, “Finish the task” on Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 and “Finish the task” on Windows 7 after you choose each process.

Forth step : Removing the Office Service

 Open the command prompt as administrator, typr the command below and then press “Enter”.
Sc deletes Clicktorunsvc

Fifth step: Removing the Office Files

1) Press the Windows logo + R to open the dialogue box “Run”.
2) On “Open” box, type %ProgramFiles%, and then click “Ok”.
3) Delete the folder “Microsoft Office 16”.
4) Delete the folder “Microsoft Office”
5) Open “Run” dialogue box, type %ProgramFiles(x86)%, and then click “Ok”.
6) Delete folder “Microsoft Office”.
7) Open “Run” dialogue box, type %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared and then click “Ok”.
8) Delete folder “ClickToRun”.
9) Open “Run” dialogue box, type %Programdata%\Microsoft, then click “Ok”.
10) Delete the folder “ClickToRun”. If the folder doesn’t exist, just go to the next step.
11) Open “Run” dialogue box, type %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Office, then click “Ok”.
12) Delete file “ClickToRunPackagerLocker”.

Sixth step: Removing the Office Registry Subkey

1) Make a registry editor.

Windows 10: Right click the “Start” button, click “Run”, type “regedit” and then “Ok”.
Windows 8 and 8.1: Right click on the “Start” button, click “Run”, type “Regedit” and then “Ok”.
Windows 7: Click “Start”, type “Run” on “Start search”, and then click “Run” on result.

2) Delete the following registry:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Microsoft Office – en-us
 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
 And then delete the Office key.

Seventh step: Removing the shortcut for Start Menu

1) Open the command prompt box as administrator
2) Type %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, and then press “Enter”.
3) Delete the folder “Microsoft Office 2016 Tools”.
4) Delete all shortcuts “ 2016” on each Office 2016 application. For example “Word 2016”, “Excel 2016” and “PowerPoint 2016”.

Eight Step: Removing the license component installation of Click-to-run of Office 16, Extensibility components and local components.

1) Open the window of command prompt as administrator.
2) On command prompt, type the command which is suitable for your operating system, and then click “Enter”.

If you run Office 2016 on x86 version on x64 operating system, run this command:
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-008F-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-008C-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-008C-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}

If you run Office 2016 on x86 version on x64 operating system, run this command:
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-007E-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-008C-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-008C-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}

If you run Office 2016 on x64 version on x64 operating system, run this command:
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-007E-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-008C-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}
MsiExec.exe /X{90160000-008C-0409-1000-0000000FF1CE}
